Nashville doesn’t just have the nickname Music City; Nashville earned the name Music City. Case in point is two upcoming huge music festivals hitting the Greater Nashville area – CMA Fest and Bonnaroo.
Founded in 2002, Bonnaroo is one of the top music festivals in the country. Held on a farm in Manchester, TN, approximately an hour south of Nashville, Bonnaroo is an eclectic music festival highlighted not only by the superstar performers it attracts, but by multiple stages, camping, a variety of activities, and boasting green sustainability. Eighty thousand festival goers enjoy this 530 acre party over the course of four days.
Some of the headlining performers for the 2015 festival include Billy Joel, the return of Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine, Robert Plant, Hozier, My Morning Jacket. Other performers at various stages include Houndmouth, Kacey Musgraves, Earth Wind and Fire, Brandi Carlile, and Ben Folds.
In addition to the incredible music offered at Bonnaroo, the festival offers a Silent Disco tent (in which party goers are given headphones and all hear the same music being played by a DJ but appear to be dancing in silence,) a Comedy tent featuring stand-up comedians, both regionally known and nationally acclaimed acts such as Ralphie May and Jeff Ross. A Cinema tent offers a break from the music showing movies and television shows in an air-conditioned environment.
There is also, of course, food available as well as art projects to do with your new-found friends. Physical activities such as yoga are offered, as is a 40-foot water slide. There is also a section for artisans to share their talents and products. A silent auction will be held as well, benefitting the charitable arm of the Bonnaroo festival. The Bonnaroo Works Fund supports local and national organizations to support arts, education, and environmental sustainability.
Bonnaroo continues to maintain a sell-out fan base for lovers of all genres of music. Some camp, some “glamp,” and some make the daily trek to and from Nashville while staying in a hotel. But all gather for love of music, camaraderie, art, and fun.
